Updating the Filpac Application
Go to File : Update Filpac.
This will download a file containing the actual update to your Filpac application. When downloaded and extracted, this file should reside in one specific folder. In single-user systems the folder should always be C:\FR\PROG
On network workstations, this would be the mapped drive letter, followed by a backslash, followed by the FR folder, followed by a backslash, followed by the PROG subfolder. Examples of this are F:\FR\PROG or G:\FR\PROG or M:\FR\PROG. Network admins note: Everything should be mapped to the FR folder, which is in the drive's root directory. This simplifies things.
When you visit the download page of our website, you'll see a download application called Filpac Setup. This contains a number of files that are updated infrequently but are necessary to run the program. The only reason to download this file would be if its date is later than the date of your current Filpac version OR if you're installing the program for the first time and should also reside in the \FR\PROG folder.
Click on the appropriate file. This will display a dialog box entitled File Download, which will present two options: Run the program from its current location or Save the program to disk. Choose Run.
If you've chosen to Run or Open the file ..
The file will take a few moments to open. Proceed to Step 3. 2. If you've chosen to Save the file ... ... you'll see a dialog box entitled Save As. Click on the listbox entitled Save In. Choose the drive where your Filpac data files are located (which should be the C: Drive). The file should always be stored in the FR folder.)
At this point you'll notice that File Name defaults to FRWINUPD
.. Save as Type defaults to Application. Click on Save to begin the download. The file that you're downloading should be named C:\FR\FRWINUPD.exe.
Once the download is completed, the next step is to extract it. In Chrome, click on the file name in the lower-left corner of the page and then Open. Otherwise you can find the file usually by opening Windows Explorer and then going to the Download folder, which is the default for most systems.
and double-click on the file. 3. This will open up a dialog box titled WinZip Self-Extractor: FRWINUPD.exe. Make sure that Unzip to folder: contains the name of the drive and folder where your Filpac program files are stored. On single-user systems or network servers, this should always be C:\FR\PROG
. On network workstations, this would be the mapped drive letter, followed by a backslash, followed by the FR folder, followed by a backslash, followed by the PROG subfolder. Examples of this are F:\FR\PROG
Click Unzip. After a few seconds, it should say "___ files unzipped successfully". At that point you can click OK and then Close to finish the process.
Note: The program should always be extracted into the PROG subfolder of the FR folder, i.e.
, where x is the local or shared drive. If you're on a single-user system, the drive letter is C. The data files (i.e. those with the extension *.KSH) should be stored in the FR folder of the local or shared drive. Keeping the program and data files in the default folders will make it much easier for you to update your Filpac system . . . and for us to provide technical support.
Once you've downloaded and "unzipped" the update, you can confirm that you've downloaded the new software by going to Help : About and checking the Program Date. It should match the date for the program displayed on the download website. 4. If you've chosen to Save the file and the the update process has been successful, then you should delete the FRWINUPD.EXE
file you've just downloaded; it is no longer needed.
5. If yours is a new installation and you've received a set of data files from us, those files should reside in the FR folder, and NOT in another subfolder. To avoid confusion, there should be only ONE set of these files in your computer system, unless you're running multiple datasets (call us if you're not sure).
